Over the last years, several studies (see bibliography) have been carried out to demonstrate
the effectiveness of binaural and isochronic sounds to improve the capacities of individuals
not only with memory or concentration deficits but also movement, coordination and
socialization. Data showed by the scientific literature suggest the existence of a promising
therapeutic potential in both neurology and physiology due to the influence of specific
frequencies on cerebral waves, and their implication for mental health and homeostasis of
neurotransmitters. So, auditory and visual stimuli, performed in a repetitive and synchronised
way, can induce significant modifications in the cerebral wave models, and consequently
modulate the neurophysiological and behavioural response.
There are different types of waves: those emitted by external processes such the sound and
light waves and the cerebral waves emitted by the brain.
Brain waves are produced by electrical activity in the brain. They can be measured using a
technique called electroencephalogram (EEG).
The research contained in the project will mainly focus on sequences of notes and musical
accords and their impact on cerebral functioning, but will also consider and test the light and
chromatic waves.
